Dublin To Screen Evangelion 2.0 and Eva 2.0 in March

Dublin’s Irish Film Institute is to show Evangelion 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance and Summer Wars (Eva 2.0). The two-day festival in March will feature Evangelion 2.0 on 20 March, and Summer Wars on 21 March.

Evangelion 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance is the second film in the remake of the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV anime series. A group of 14-year-olds with giant biomechanical units protect Earth from mysterious Angels. It originally opened June 2009 in Japan.

Summer Wars features a modern family on a midsummer adventure in a light-hearted story of “action entertainment”, which originally opened August 2009 in Japan.

59 Foot Gundam Statue To Take Over Shizuoka

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Gundam anime franchise, a 59 foot Gundam robot is being placed in Shizuoka city (Japan). Officials estimate nearly 1 million people will visit.

The full size will be situated next to Higashi-Shizuoka Station in Shizuoka’s Aoki ward, and should be up by July 2010.

It originally stood in Tokyo bay on the island of Odaiba last Summer, where it attracted over 4 million visitors, nearly three times the expected amount. More details about the exhibit and other related events are to be announced end of March.

Ultimately there are plans for the statue to be permanently sited next to the Bandai Hobby Center in Shizuoka, which is the factory that makes Bandai’s Gundam model kits.

Fans Endure 25 Days To See Rie Kugimiya

Taiwan. Fans of Rie Kugimiya have been lining up in the Taipei streets since 3rd January. Some have endured more than 25 days of cold nights, to see Rie at her scheduled appearance at the 2010 International Book Exhibition and to try and secure one of just 89 remaining signed ceramic plates.

Fans almost brought down the server when 50 autographed plates were made available to pre-order online. Over 80,000 order attempts were made with the 50 sold within 30 seconds of opening. Another 89 plates will be available from the Exhibition.

Rie Kugimiya is a voice actress known for her characters in Shakugan no Shana, Louise (Zero no Tsukaima), Taiga (Tiger x Dragon), and Nagi (Hayate the Combat Butler).

Heaven and Earth Anime Follow-Up Is Go

The official website for the TV anime series Dead Aggressor has confirmed that a new anime has the go ahead for the Dead Aggressor: Heaven and Earth follow-up. Hisashi Hirai is returning to work on the project alongside animators Xebec. Tow Ubukata will be scriptwriting.

Devil Comic Previewed (Madhouse)

The new Devil comic from Torajirou Kishi (Maka-Maka, Colorful) will be available 3 February 2010. (But sneak over to Comic Book Resources for a preview).

Devil sees American publisher Dark Horse Comics collaborate with Japanese animation studio Madhouse. It will be a full color comic produced exclusively for publication in the USA.

Set in Tokyo, this science-fiction police drama sees the incurable disease Devil’s Possession rapidly infect the population. People are turned into into bloodsucking superhumans known as “Devils”.

1st issue (24 pages) out 3 February 2010 – 2nd issue due on sale on 17 March 2010.

Mamoru Oshii Announces Tetsujin 28 Film

The highly acclaimed Mamoru Oshii (Director of Ghost in the Shell etc) announced on Friday in Tokyo that his new film will be an adaptation of Yokoyama’s Tetsujin 28-go. This pioneering work is best known for inspiring a 1963 anime that was adapted as Gigantor. Oshii revealed the news during a discussion on the opening of his latest film, Assault Girls.

Acclaimed director Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, The Sky Crawlers, Patlabor) revealed in Tokyo on Friday that his new work will be a film adaptation of Mitsuteru Yokoyama’s Tetsujin 28-gō giant robot manga. The pioneering 1956-1966 manga is best known in English for inspring a 1963-1966 anime that was adapted as Gigantor. Oshii made his announcement during a live discussion to mark the opening of his latest film, the live-action Assault Girls project.

Look out for the trailer for the new Detective Conan film. Based on Gosho Aoyama’s Detective Conan manga, this 14th film in the series opens on 17th April in Japan.

Conan, the genius detective trapped inside a child’s body, faces his big rival Kid The Phantom Thief. Kid is after “Lady of the Sky” jewel onboard Bell 3, the world’s largest airship. But the airship has been hijacked by a mysterious terrorist group called Red Shamu-neko.

English Cast Announced For Gundam Unicorn Anime

The anime is an adaptation of the 10 Gundam Unicorn novels by Harutoshi Fukui. These are set in the same Universal Century timeline as Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise’s first Mobile Suit Gundam TV anime series and sequels. Released simultaneously will be the first Blu-ray Disc volume for the series on March 12 with Japanese and English dubbing. The first volume of six DVD’s will ship the same day, with Japanese dubbing and English subtitles.
